| In January 2004, twelve students from P.S. 1 Charter School and The Spot embarked on a project to bring the voices of young people to the community. In partnership with Morey Evans Advertising, students from P.S. 1's Urban Citizen class worked for nine weeks to plan and produce a television campaign aimed at enhancing, expanding and changing perceptions of today's youth. Students worked side-by-side with Morey Evans staff to determine project goals, conduct community focus groups, develop messaging strategies, shoot documentary-style video interviews with their peers, and edit three 60-second public service announcements. Visits were also exchanged between the students and students from the University of Colorado's School of Journalism. KUSA-TV 9NEWS reporter Cheryl Preheim provided media coverage throughout. The final campaign was publicly presented to Mayor John Hickenlooper on March 9, and will be aired on KUSA-TV, Denver. |
